In the second, Donald Jacobs would open Bama’s scoring on a 13 yard touchdown run. In the third, Bama would score on a 7 yard Steadman Shealy run followed by a 23 yard touchdown pass from Jacobs to Billy Jackson. The 1979 squad would finish the season 12-0, as SEC champions, and as national champions after a victory in the Sugar Bowl for coach Paul "Bear" Bryant.
