  Score: 0-13
Alabama vs. Mississippi State A very determined Mississippi State squad soundly defeated the Crimson Tide 13-0 in this contest. With this win the Maroons finished the season Undefeated and Untied and earned a bid to one of the coveted New Year's Day Bowl games. State scored once in the first quarter and once in the fourth to defeat the Tide. Alabama had several good scoring chances in the game. In the first quarter they had two passes batted away in the endzone and in the third drove deep into State territory only to be stuffed at the goal each time. On a side note, this game marked the last game for Alabama star Ed Hickerson in a Tide uniform. During World War Two, Hickerson would join the Georgia Pre Flight Skycrackers, a southern football all-star Naval squad, and would help his team defeat Alabama in 1942. The 1940 squad finished the season with a record of 7-2 for Coach Frank Thomas.
