Alabama vs.Hawai'i

  Date: 11/30/2002
  Score: 21-16
Alabama vs. Hawai'i In what had been billed all season as Alabama's "bowl game" as a result of a two year bowl ban, the Warriors of Hawai'i gave the Tide all that they could handle in this 21-16 Bama victory in paradise. After a shaky first quarter in which the Tide missed a pair of field goals, Bama would score a pair of second quarter touchdowns on a 1 yard Shaud Williams run and on a 14 yard Ray Hudson run. Bama's final points came in the fourth on a 26 yard Tyler Watts pass to Sam Collins. Bama would play strong defense and their performance would result in 5 Hawai'i turnovers. In the days following the game, Alabama's head coach Dennis Franchione shocked the Crimson nation by taking the head coaching position at Texas A&M and leaving the Capstone after only two seasons. The 2002 squad would finish the season with a record of 10-3 for coach Dennis Franchione in his final season at the Capstone.
