  Alabama vs. Sewanee In by far the most exciting game of the 1916 season, Alabama was able to just narrowly defeat Sewanee by the score of 7-6 in Birmingham's Rickwood Field. Sewanee would take an early 6-0 lead and maintain it through the fourth quarter. In the fourth, Bama was finally able to punch in a touchdown on a 5 yard Hunter Burnett run, and with F.H. Gage's successful extra point attempt dubbed the "$50,000 Beauty," Alabama would take the lead and hold it for the win. The 1916 squad would finish the season with a record of 6-3 for head coach Thomas Kelly.
