Alabama vs.Georgia

  Date: 11/4/1944
  Score: 7-14
Alabama vs. Georgia It seemed like it would be an obvious Tide victory. The Bulldogs had only beaten Kentucky by 1 and the Tide won by 41 but sometimes it doesn't turn out as scripted and the Dogs came away victorious 14-7. Two very long and well placed punts allowed Georgia to score its touchdowns while the defense came up strong with 3 near goalline stands. After a scoreless first quarter of punt after punt for both teams Alabama broke through in the second quarter when Fred Grant ran it in from the 5. The play was set up by a costly Georgia fumble deep in its own territory. Alabama took the 7-0 lead into halftime. Bama's offense went dead in the second half however and the Bulldog offense got going and they put up 14 points on the Tide. The 1944 squad finished the season 5-2-2 and with an apperance in the Sugar Bowl for Coach Thomas.
