  Date: 11/6/1963
  Score: 20-19
Alabama vs. Mississippi State The game was too close for comfort for the Crimson Tide fans, but a win is a win and the Tide defeated the Bulldogs 20-19. Tim Davis got Bama's scoring started in the first with a 43 yard field goal. After 2 Mississippi State touchdowns (with failed extra points) Jimmy Dill caught a Joe Namath pass for a 40 yard touchdown and Davis hit on a 21 yard field goal to give Alabama a 1 point half time lead 13-12. In the third quarter, State scored a touchdown and this time converted on the extra point going up by 6 heading into the fourth quarter. It was here that Joe Namath came up big with a 1 yard quarterback sneak to tie the game and Tim Davis' extra point proved to be the winning margin. The 1963 squad finished with a record of 9-2 with an appearance in the Orange Bowl against Texas for Coach Bryant.
