  Alabama vs. South Carolina Homecoming for the 1942 Tide was a great game as Alabama defeated the Gamecocks 29-0 in a game which they used mostly reserve players. Kenny Reese scored the first Bama points of the afternoon on a 26 yard pass from Johnny August. Russ Craft struck next in the second quarter with a very impressive 44 yard dash. The final touchdown of the afternoon came of an 84 yard Dave Brown touchdown. The defense held strong all game and even provided the final points with a 2 point safety. In the losing effort South Carolina's Dunham was the star playing all 60 minutes and recording 2/3 of his team's tackles. The 1942 squad finished the season 8-3 with a win in the Orange Bowl for Coach Thomas.
