  Alabama vs. Chattanooga The Moccasins proved to be to close for comfort for Bama in their 1953 meeting in Tuscaloosa. The Tide scored first on a 5 yard touchdown run by Corky Tharp late in the first. Chattanooga came right back with their own 80 yard touchdown drive on their next possession. On Bama's next possession, Albert Elmore then would score a touchdown on a 54 yard run. Chattanooga would score again to make the score 14-14 at the half. Corky Tharp would score the game-winning touchdown on a 19 yard run in the second half. The 1953 squad would finish the season with a record of 6-3-3, as SEC champions, and with an appearance in the Cotton Bowl for Coach Red Drew.
