Alabama vs. North Carolina After a disappointing loss to Florida in the SEC title game the Crimson Tide headed to Jacksonville Florida to play North Carolina in the Gator Bowl. Despite being handicapped by losing Antionio Langham due to eligibility problems and Jay Barker to injury the Tide prevailed 24-10. After a scoreless first quarter Alabama came on strong in the second starting with a 22 yard field goal from Michael Proctor. After UNC took the lead QB Brian Burgdorf ran a 33 yard draw play up the middle for a score and put the Tide on top. The teams headed into the lockerooms tied 10-10 at the half. The second half belonged to Alabama scoring once in each quarter. The third quarter score came on Alabama's opening drive with an 8 yard pass from Burgdorff to Tarrant Lynch. The final score of the game came on a ten-yard pass from Burgdorff to Chad Key. It was Key's first career touchdown. With this Gator Bowl victory the 1993 squad finished with a record of 9-3-1 for coach Gene Stallings. However because of NCAA sanctions Bama was forced to forfeit all of its wins in the regular season and this Gator Bowl win was the only one of the season that officially counts in the record books.
