  Alabama vs. South Florida

Alabama kicked off the 2003 season after an off-season of turmoil that saw several coaching changes. Dennis Franchione left for Texas A&M and Mike Price was hired and later fired. Finally Mike Shula came back to Tuscaloosa and brought some stability to the program and kicked off his career against South Florida and despite a mediocre first half came away with the lopsided 40-17 victory. USF started off the scoring midway through the first but Alabama's defense answered with a 51-yard Charlie Peprah interception return. After USF put on the next 10 points in the second quarter Bama scored twice in the final minute of the quarter. Brodie Croyle hit Triandos Luke on a 10-yard touchdown with 26 seconds remaining in the half and after South Florida fumbled the kickoff Brian Bostick hit a 40-yard field goal as time expired to tie the teams at 17 going into halftime. In the second half it was all Alabama. After Bostick hit on his second field goal (this one from 25 yards) Shaud Williams took over scoring the final three touchdowns. He scored first on a 73-yard punt return and later on runs of 3 yards and 1 yard. The 2003 Crimson Tide finished the season 4-9 for head coach Mike Shula in his first season at the Capstone.
