  Alabama vs. Temple After ending the 1987 season by losing their final three games, Alabama opened the 1988 season by blowing-out the Owls of Temple 37-0 in Philadelphia. In the first, Bobby Humphrey would visit the end zone on an 8 yard run. In the second, Philip Doyle would hit a 53 yard field goal. In the third, Gene Jelks returned the second half kick-off 96 yards for a touchdown, and Doyle would hit a 47 yard field goal. In the fourth, David Smith would hit Kevin Turner for a 4 yard touchdown pass, Turner would score again on a 7 yard run, and Alan Ward would hit a 26 yard field goal to close the Tide's scoring. The 1988 squad would finish with a record of 9-3 and with a victory in the Sun Bowl for Coach Curry.
