  Alabama vs. Penn State In Coach Curry's first road game, the Tide defeated Penn State 24-13 in "Happy Valley." In the first, Bobby Humphrey scored on a 73 yard touchdown run. Philip Doyle would also hit a 46 yard field goal to close Bama's first quarter scoring. In the second, David Smith would visit the end zone on a 1 yard plunge. After a scoreless third, Bo Wright would score Bama's final touchdown on a 10 yard run. Bobby Humphrey ran all over the Nittany Lion defense all afternoon for 220 yards and one touchdown. The 1987 squad finished with a record of 7-5 and with an appearance in the Hall of Fame Bowl in Coach Bill Curry's first season at Alabama.
