  Alabama vs. Southern Mississippi The Crimson tide dominated this year's contest with the Golden Eagles and won by a score of 17-10. The only score of the first half came off of a 73 yard touchdown reception from Punter Bryne Diehl to cornerback Tommy Johnson. Johnson would later say, "I was as surprised as y'all were". After an Eagle touchdown and field goal Michael Proctor would add a field goal late in the third quarter to tie the game at 10. The Tide took the lead for good in the final quarter with a one-yard touchdown dive from Chris Anderson. The 1992 squad finished with a record of 13-0, as SEC champions, and as national champions for coach Gene Stallings.
