  Alabama vs. Southern Mississippi After throwing an interception that was ran back for a touchdown to start the game, the Tide would dominate the Golden Eagles in this 31-7 victory. After the aforementioned interception, Bobby Humphrey would have a 4 yard touchdown run to tie up the game. In the second, the Tide would score on a 6 yard pass play from Mike Shula to Todd Richardson. In the third, Bama would score first on a 23 yard Van Tiffin field goal followed by a 5 yard Gene Jelks touchdown run. Alabama's final score came in the fourth on a 31 yard pass play from Shula to Richardson. The Tide's defense dominated the afternoon as well by only allowing 206 yards of total offense to the Eagles. The 1986 Crimson Tide finished the season with a record of 10-3 and with a victory in the Sun Bowl in what would be Coach Ray Perkins' last year with Alabama.
