  Alabama vs. Delta State To open the 1951 season the Crimson Tide simply demolished Delta State of Mississippi at the Cramton Bowl in Montgomery 89-0. Even today, the 89 points scored is a modern day Crimson Tide record for points in a game (surpassed only by the 110-0 slaughter of Marion Institute in 1922). 10 different players entered the scoring column in the game as Alabama racked up an amazing 553 yards of total offense! Bobby Luna was the star among stars in this game scoring twice on the ground and passing another touchdown to Corky Tharp. Other Alabama highlights included a 73 yard touchdown play by Tommy Lewis who took a lateral by Clell Hobson 66 yards to the house, and kicker Red Lutz who set an SEC mark by converting on 11 of 12 PAT'S surpassing the old mark of 10. The 1951 squad finished the season 5-6 for coach Red Drew.
