  Date: 9/22/1956
  Score: 13-20
Alabama vs. Rice Coming off the worst season in Alabama football history the Crimson Tide faced a tough Owl team to open the 1956 season, and despite matching up nicely with Rice the Tide lost 20-13. Much of Bama's problems came by way of stopping the pass. Alabama's touchdowns came on a pair of running plays. The first came in the second quarter by quarterback Clay Walls and the second came on a 17 yard run by halfback Don Comstock in the third quarter. The 1956 squad finished the season 2-7-1 for coach J.B. "Ears" Whitworth.
