Bama's first score of the day came on a 100 yard kickoff return by Willie Shelby in the third. Bama's other three touchdowns came on short runs by Wilbur Jackson, Gary Rutledge, and Willie Shelby. The 1973 squad finished the season with a record of 11-1, as SEC champions, as national champions, and with an appearence in the Sugar Bowl for Coach Bryant.
