  Alabama vs. Arkansas As a result of the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks; this was Alabama's first game since the Vanderbilt game on September 8. The Tide would defeat the Razorbacks by a score of 31-10 in front of an extremely emotional Bryant-Denny crowd. Ahmaad Galloway would score Bama's first points with his 11 yard touchdown run in the first. In the second, Reggie Myles would return an Arkansas fumble 42 yards to the house. In the third, Neal Thomas would hit a 36 yard field goal, and Tyler Watts would hit Freddie Milons for a 39 yard touchdown reception. Thurman Ward would close Bama's scoring with his 60 yard interception return for a touchdown in the fourth. The 2001 squad would finish with a record of 7-5 and with a victory in the Independence Bowl in coach Dennis Franchione's first season as head coach of the Tide.
