  Alabama vs. Chattanooga On a late September night in Birmingham, Alabama defeated the Moccasins of Chattanooga to open the 1950 season. After a sluggish start, Ed Salem scored his first touchdown of his All-American season on a short run in the second quarter. Salem scored his second touchdown later in the first half on a 21 yard pass to Larry Chiodetti. For the third score of the game it was Salem again, this time on a 53 yard pass to Al Lary. Finally, Jim Burkette dove one yard for the final tide score. The 1950 squad would finish the season with a record of 9-2 for Coach Red Drew.
