  Alabama vs. Tulane In the Alabama's first game of the 1949 season, the Green Wave defeated the Tide soundly by a score of 14-28 in Mobile despite an attempted Tide comeback in the fourth quarter. Bama scored two touchdowns in the fourth, but were out-rushed 65-435 in the game. After driving to the Tulane 4 yard line on the opening possession of the game Alabama didn't seriously threaten until the final quarter when Ed Salem passed to Bill Abston for 75 yards for the first score and after a Green Wave touchdown Butch Avinger hit Tom Calvin for the second score. The 1949 squad finished the season with a record of 6-3-1 for Coach Red Drew.
