  Alabama vs. Louisiana Tech The Tide, fresh off two straight National Championship seasons took on Louisiana Tech in the opening game of the 1966 season and won easily 34-0. Alabama got off to a slow start going scoreless in the first quarter but after that Bama went on fire. Kenny "Snake" Stabler hit Dennis Homan for a 32 yard touchdown pass in the second quarter and later in the quarter Stabler kept it himself for a 7 yard touchdown run. In the third, Harold Moore rushed it in from 2 yards out. Alabama scored twice in the final quarter. The first score came when Stabler and Homan hooked up again, this time on a 79 yard pass. The last score of the game came on Moore's second touchdown, this time a 4 yard run. The 1966 squad finished 11-0, as SEC champions, and with a win in the Sugar Bowl against Nebraska for Coach Bryant.
