  Alabama vs. Southwestern Louisiana The 1942 Crimson Tide started off the season with a night game in Montgomery against an outmatched Southwestern Louisiana squad and the Tide dominated the contest 54-0. Both teams were hindered all season and in subsequent seasons by the fighting of World War Two. As for the game Coach Thomas used 43 players who helped produce 8 touchdowns. Kenny Reese scored 2 touchdowns while Don Salls, George Weeks, Norman Mosley, Joe Domnanovich, Louie Scales, and Al Sabo all scored one. The 1942 squad finished the season 8-3 with a win in the Orange Bowl for Coach Thomas.
