  Alabama vs. Tulane Alabama‚Äôs second half heroics almost was enough to take down the Green Wave but in the end the Tide came away with its third straight loss in New Orleans 21-14. After being down 21-0 Bama came back scoring once in the third off of a 4 yard run by Tom Calvin and once in the fourth off of a 10 yard run from Ed Salem. This loss also marked the first time that Alabama had lost their opening game in 40 years. The 1948 squad finished with a record of 6-4-1 for Coach Red Drew.
