  Alabama vs. LSU Alabama could only muster a 7-7 tie against a tough LSU squad in Mobile. In the game, Bama scored on their first posession. With Bart Starr at quarterback, the Tide drove 80 yards, with Tommy Lewis scoring the touchdown on a 1 yard run. LSU would answer Bama with quarterback Al Doggett leading the Tigers to a touchdown on the following drive. The Tiger touchdown would end the afternoons scoring, but Alabama would stop LSU on a fourth and goal play from the one late in the third to keep the score even. The 1953 squad would finish the season with a record of 6-3-3, as SEC champions, and with an appearence in the Cotton Bowl for Coach Red Drew.
