  Alabama vs. Arkansas

In what would turn out to be a thriller, Arkansas came into Tuscaloosa ranked in the nations top 10 and nearly left big losers. However a 21 point second quarter comeback helped the Razorbacks to a 34-31 victory in double overtime. Arkansas began the scoring in the first quarter with a long touchdown scramble from its quarterback Matt Jones. Alabama answered back with a 16 yard Brodie Croyle touchdown pass to his favorite target Triandos Luke. The teams traded field goals in the second quarter with Brian Bostick of Alabama hitting a 48-yard kick as time expired in the half. In the third quarter Alabama seemed to take over the ballgame. Croyle hit his second touchdown pass on a great 3rd down and 1 play-action pass to Dre Fulgham for 71 yards. Alabamas next possession also resulted in a Croyle to Fulgham pass, this one for just 12 yards. Alabama attempted to put the game out of reach late in the quarter when Shaud Williams busted up the middle for an 80-yard touchdown run giving Bama a seemingly insurmountable 31-10 lead. However Arkansas came storming back and with 2 minutes remaining in the third quarter Cedric Cobbs brought the Razorbacks within 14 with his 5-yard touchdown run. In the final quarter Arkansas scored two more times, highlighted by a 3 yard Matt Jones pass with just 27 seconds remaining in regulation. Alabama elected not to try and get into field goal range at the end of regulation and for the first time since 1998 Tuscaloosa played host to an overtime game. In the first overtime the Alabama defense held strong with Charles Jones intercepting a pass giving Alabama a chance for the win. However Bostick missed the field goal wide left sending the teams into a second overtime. Brodie Croyle had his first pass intercepted in the period and Arkansas answered with a 19-yard game winning field goal ending the thriller. The 2003 Crimson Tide finished the season 4-9 for head coach Mike Shula in his first season at the Capstone.
