In the first, Wilbur Jackson would score on a 4 yard touchdown run. In the second, Bama would score four touchdowns on a pair of Ellis Beck runs (3 and 16 yards), a 1 yard Terry Davis run, and on a 1 yard Steve Dean run. Gary Rutledge would then score a pair of second half touchdowns to seal the game on a 7 yard run in the third and on a 5 yard run in the fourth. The 1972 squad would finish with a record of 10-2, as SEC champions, and with an appearance in the Cotton Bowl for Coach Bryant.
