  Alabama vs. Vanderbilt The Tide survived a frantic fourth quarter comeback by the Commodores and sneaked out of rain-soaked Nashville with a 20-14 victory. Philip Doyle opened the scoring for the Tide with a 24 yard field goal in the first. In the second, Bama would score touchdowns on a 9 yard Siran Stacy run and on a 17 yard Gary Hollingsworth pass to Lamonde Russell. Doyle would close Bama's scoring with a 39 yard field goal in the third. The 1989 squad finished with a record of 10-2, as SEC champions, and with an appearance in the Sugar Bowl in Coach Curry's final season at the Capstone.
