  Alabama vs. Vanderbilt Alabama opened the 1999 season on the road in Nashville against Vanderbilt. After a tough game, the Tide prevailed 28-17. Shaun Alexander stared the scoring for the Tide scoring his first touchdown of the day in the first quarter to tie the game at 7. After a Vandy field goal, Andrew Zow connected with Dustin McClintock for an 18 yard score. Vandy took the lead heading into the fourth quarter, and it was here that Alexander took over the game for Alabama, scoring twice in a three-minute stretch. The first Alexander score came on a 3 yard run and the second on a 51 yard catch from Zow. The 1999 squad finished the season with a 10-3 record, as SEC champions, and with an appearance in the Orange Bowl for coach Mike Dubose.
