  Date: 9/8/1979
  Score: 30-6
Alabama vs. Georgia Tech Fresh off their second SEC championship in a row and a national championship, the Crimson Tide traveled to Atlanta to take on the Yellow Jackets to open the 1979 season. The Tide took their momentum from the previous year and defeated Tech 30-6. E.J. Junior started the scoring for the Tide intercepting the ball and taking it back 59 yards to the house. The Tide would then add three more touchdowns in a row, all rushing: on a 1 yard dive by Major Ogilvie, followed by a 13 yard run by Steven Whitman, and capped off with an 11 yard run by Steadman Shealy. Alabama would also add a field goal to give them a 30-0 lead. However, the Yellow Jackets would finally score in the fourth to ruin the shutout, but it was too little too late. The 1979 squad would finish the season 12-0, as SEC champions, and as national champions after a victory in the Sugar Bowl for coach Paul "Bear" Bryant.
