Birmingham's Rickwood Field is the site of the battle of Dixie football powers Alabama and Sewanee. Defending Southern Conference and National Champion Alabama prevails 2-0 and keeps its hope of returning the two championships to Tuscaloosa at the end of the season. Alabama's two points came in the fourth quarter when Fred Pickhard led a charge of Bama linemen who blocked a punt. Crimson Tide center Sherlock Holmes appeared to have the ball in his grasps but it slipped away and rolled out of the end zone for a game-winning safety. A record crowd of 12,000 was on hand for the event.
