Joe Namath debuts as the Alabama quarterback, immediately becoming an instant sensation with his performance in the Tide's 35-0 win over Georgia at Birmingham's Legion Field. For the game, Namath was 10 of 14 for 179 yards and three touchdowns. Namath's second pass of his career went 52 yards for a touchdown to Richard Williamson. Namath also rushes for 36 yards and earns SEC Offensive Player of the Week honors. Center-linebacker Lee Roy Jordan, described in the press as a "football terror," is named "Lineman of the Week."
