Paul Bryant's first game as the Alabama head coach occurs at Ladd Field in Mobile and the gallant Tide falls to eventual national champion LSU 13-3. A field goal by Fred Sington, Jr. are the first points of the Bryant era and put Bama ahead 3-0 at the half. The game is also remembered for part of the stadium collapsing during the action and for the Alabama crowd standing in unison and cheering its team as it went to the locker room. It would be an omen for brighter days at the Capstone.
