Keith McCants is picked No. 4 in the first round of the NFL draft by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, a somewhat surprising pick after the star linebacker had performed so poorly for pro scouts at a workout in Tuscaloosa earlier this month. Rumors of a severe knee problem does not keep Ray Perkins, the coach who recruited McCants for Alabama in the winter of '86, from going after the talented Mobile native. Two of McCants' defensive teammates John Mangum (sixth round by the Chicago Bears) and Thomas Rayam (10th round by the Washington Redskins) also are chosen in the pro lottery. |
